West Virginia Is Rising—And You’re Invited to Be Part of It

There’s something happening in West Virginia.

Not loud.

Not flashy.

But real.

If you’ve ever driven through places like Terra Alta, you’ve probably felt it—that mix of worn edges and quiet potential. Old buildings. Deep roots. A sense that things have been through something… but they aren’t done yet.

The story isn’t over—it’s turning the page.

And here’s the truth:

That’s exactly what makes it powerful.

This Isn’t a Comeback Story—It’s a Reintroduction

For a long time, West Virginia has been defined by what was taken from it—coal, timber, people.

But what’s happening now?

It’s about what’s being rebuilt.

  • The rise of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve bringing national attention

  • A grassroots West Virginia Farm Crawl turning into a statewide movement

  • Places like Snowshoe Mountain Resort quietly becoming hubs for elevated food and hospitality

This isn’t hype.

It’s momentum.

West Virginia doesn’t have Michelin stars—yet.

But it does have something just as telling:

  • Chefs redefining Appalachian cuisine on a national stage

  • Culinary leaders connected to James Beard Awards recognition bringing credibility to the region including Matt Welsch, Mike Costello and Amy Dawson, Scott MacGregor, and Paul Smith

  • A growing focus and National stage for local sourcing, heritage foodways, and honest ingredients

This isn’t imitation.

This is identity.

Land, Food, and a Different Way Forward

Out here, the land still matters.

Food still has a face.

And agriculture isn’t just production—it’s restoration.

At our farm, we’re part of that story—raising bison, rebuilding soil, and connecting people back to where their food comes from. That work recently became part of the national conversation through the Smithsonian Institution at the National Museum of Natural History—a reminder that what’s happening here matters far beyond our hills.

From NASA mathematicians like Katherine Johnson to award-winning chefs and artists, this state has never lacked talent.

What it’s lacked… is attention.

That’s changing.

The Truth Most People Miss

West Virginia isn’t waiting to be discovered. The people shaping what comes next are already here—cooking, farming, building, and telling a different story.

This isn’t a future idea.

It’s already happening. Right now.

Which means:

“It’s one of the last places in the country where things are still real—and you can be part of what it becomes next.”

Come See It for Yourself

Whether it’s a farm visit, a meal, a weekend in the mountains, or just a drive through the back roads…

Come experience it.

Not when it’s finished. But while it’s being built.

Because that’s the part you’ll never forget ;)
